The Department of Psychiatry offers a full range of diagnostic and treatment services. For adult and geriatric patients, there are inpatient, outpatient, emergency and consultation-liaison services available. Depending on need and appropriateness, patients may be offered therapeutic services ranging from counseling and psycho-therapy to treatment with psychiatric medications and electro-convulsive therapy. Many patients of all ages receive psychiatric treatment as volunteers in various ongoing research projects. Patient evaluations occur at all levels.

Professional care is provided by a highly qualified psychiatric faculty and also by faculty-supervised psychiatric residents. In addition to individual treatment, there are group and family counseling services available. For those with limited resources, a sliding-scale fee schedule may apply.

Approximately 150 professionals comprise the psychiatry department's full-time and clinical faculty. The department receives $2-3 million annually in grants. Six physicians in the department have been listed in the national edition of Best Doctors in America with 17 physicians listed in the publication's midwest edition. Several members of the clinical faculty are also training analysts at the St. Louis Psychoanalytic Institute and serve as course leaders and supervisors of psychiatry residents.

Large enough to make a difference. Small enough to care.
