Caring for Adults with Type 1, Type 2 and Other Types of Diabetes
Diabetes is a complex, lifelong disease that requires careful treatment and daily management. Whether you’re newly diagnosed or further along in your journey, you don’t have to face this disease alone.
Through the SLUCare Diabetes Clinic, we’ll help you understand your condition and what you can do to manage the disease most effectively. Our endocrinologists, dietitians and diabetes educators all work together to bring you state of the art treatment, along with educational programs to help you make informed decisions for your well-being.
We offer comprehensive care for diabetes, including:
- Diabetes education and counseling, accredited by the American Diabetes Association (ADA)
- Continuous glucose monitoring
- Medication management
- Intensive insulin pump therapy/management
- Nutrition counseling
- Hypoglycemia management
Delivering Innovative Care
Advances in technology are opening up new treatment options for diabetes. Continuous glucose monitors, for example, help eliminate the need for daily finger
sticks. These small devices are inserted into the skin to track blood sugar levels
at regular intervals, 24 hours a day, providing information about blood sugar patterns.
You can even shower and swim with the device attached.
As part of our program, SLUCare endocrinologists use continuous glucose monitoring to track your blood sugar levels, which helps us develop an individualized care plan for you.
Empowering Patients through Education
Through the SLUCare Diabetes Clinic, you are encouraged to take part in our two-part,
ADA-accredited diabetes education classes at the Center for Specialized Medicine.
We use an interactive format to discuss lifestyle habits that make living with diabetes
more manageable. Topics include:
- Healthy eating
- Monitoring blood sugar
- Incorporating exercise into your routine
- Diabetes medications
