Offering IBD Management, Education, Clinical Trials and More
Inflammatory bowel disease, or IBD, is chronic inflammation of the digestive tract which may cause pain, bleeding, diarrhea, weight loss and other troubling gastrointestinal symptoms. Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are two forms of IBD. Though the cause of IBD is not fully understood, we do know that this is a lifelong condition that requires the care of a gastroenterologist.
In the SLUCare Inflammatory Bowel Disease Clinic, you’ll find gastroenterologists dedicated exclusively to treating patients with IBD. These doctors work with a team of specialists to offer you comprehensive care, including:
- Medical management of IBD – both in and out of the hospital
- Nutritional counseling
- Advanced testing for colon cancer (chromoendoscopy)
- Surgeries, such as bowel resection, removal and repair
- Pharmacy services, including injections, biologics and infusion therapy
- Psychology services, including gut-directed hypnotherapy
- Patient education
- Social work services
- Assistance with insurance approvals/copays and more
While there is no cure for IBD, there are many good treatments available that can improve your quality of life. As a patient in our care, you can be assured our team will work collaboratively to help you manage this disease as effectively as possible.
Access to Clinical Trials
Our physicians are on the forefront of research into new therapies for IBD. We actively participate in and recruit patients for clinical trials for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Through these studies, patients have access to the latest medications and treatment options. Your gastroenterologist will advise you about any studies for which you may qualify.
