Better Care through Personalized Medicine
SLUCare Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory is a CLIA-certified clinical laboratory accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP). Technical and medical oversight is provided by board-certified clinical scientists and pathologists. The laboratory offers molecular diagnostic testing in the following areas.
Infectious Disease Testing
The Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory performs assays for the detection and quantitation (where noted) of the following microorganisms:
|BK Virus (1)||Serum|
|Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) (1)||Whole blood (6), CSF (3)|
|Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) (1)||Serum|
|Cytomegalovirus (CMV) (1)||Plasma, CSF|
|Herpes Simplex Virus Types 1 and 2 (HSV) (2)||CSF|
|Hepatitis C Virus Genotyping||Serum|
|Human Papillomavirus Virus (HPV)||ThinPrep® cervical fluid|
|Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) (2)||ThinPrep® cervical fluid, APTIMA collection kit (4)|

Molecular Oncology Testing for Solid Tumors
Analysis of genetic changes observed in solid tumors allows for the characterization of the tumor, selection of optimal therapy, and prognostication. Our lab offers a variety of molecular diagnostic assays that allow for the detection and characterization of these genetic changes. Tests include the following.
|HER2 Amplification||Breast Cancer|
Inherited Genetic Testing
The Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory offers testing for the assessment of the following inherited mutations.
|HFE mutations (C282Y and H63D)||Hemochromatosis|
For consultations regarding molecular oncology, molecular hematopathology, or inherited genetic testing, please contact Dr. Karen Moser at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory aims to provide optimal patient care via the delivery of molecular diagnostics. We look forward to serving both our patients and our clinical colleagues.Telephone

Test Ordering & Reporting
For clients within SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital, molecular diagnostic testing can be ordered by completing a requisition and submitting it along with a properly labeled specimen to the 4th Floor Clinical Laboratory in Desloge Tower.
For clients outside SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital that do not have an account already set up and would like molecular diagnostic testing performed, please call 314-577-6071.
See Specimen Requirements as a guide for the selection of specimen type, volume of specimen required, and transport conditions for each molecular diagnostic test.
Written reports with interpretation are generally available within five working days for all tests except those performed on formalin fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) specimens, which have a turnaround time of 10 days. For SLU Hospital clients, final reports are sent to the patients electronic health record (Epic). For clients outside SLU Hospital or SLUCare clinics, final reports may be faxed to the ordering physician or available through our password-protected Internet results module. The medical directors and/or laboratory director are available to discuss the results if needed.
