SLUCare's division of pediatric toxicology, part of the Missouri Poison Center, provides high-quality triage and treatment information for hospitals and health care practitioners caring for patients who have been poisoned or had a toxic exposure. We offer direct or telephone consultation to physicians. We also educate health care professionals, and the public, throughout Missouri about toxicology and related issues.
Each year, we manage more than 55,000 cases involving critically poisoned adults and children, including numerous toxicology consultations. Our consultations range from simple triage advice to complex toxicology information and medical management.
Our recent research includes tracking synthetic cannabinoid and hallucinogenic stimulant bath salt exposures through the Missouri Poison Center. We provided advocacy testimony to the State of Missouri to assist in drafting of legislation to ban these products.
Our doctors also provided testimony to the U.S. Senate, aiding in the drafting of the Synthetic Drug Abuse Prevention Act of 2012.
